Most of the readings this week have to do with Descartes and his theories. What do you think of what he had to say? Should we re-examine all of our beliefs? If we are comfortable and happy with what we believe, but doubt arises about it's truthfulness in reality, should we stay content and ignore the truth, or search for meaning and leave our comfort zone? Have any of you already re-examined what you believe, and if so how did you and what did you do after?

If doubt arises or one has a reason to doubt their belief they should by all means explore other options and correct the belief. Otherwise, what you believe is a lie when we are essentially searching for the truth
I think any intellectual being should, and will, at some point, examine their own beliefs. It is healthy for us all to be skeptical of such things, but not to an unlivable degree. I'm comfortable and happy with certain things I believe, and discontented with other things. This class, for example, has made me question myself thoroughly. It has pointed out all of my (and all of our) hypocrisies. It has made me question whether I exist, whether I have 2 hands, or how I could possibly prove that the world is not flat. I'm still in the process of examining all of these things, this class has turned me upside down (as you've noticed in my own postings) so I've yet to figure out what I'm to do after I'm finished. Right now I'm very confused and a little upset that I'm pretty sure that this class will end with a wide gaping hole staring us in the face. Dr. Mozoue won't be able to say some magical phrase that will put our minds at ease and rest again (if they were ever there in the first place)... I'm sure the rest of my life I'll be constantly changing my beliefs and my opinions. Exciting, but somewhat annoying too. Wish I just knew everything :)
I think in order for us to grow intellectually as human beings, it is necessary to explore many different beliefs. In being satisfied with what you already believe, you are closing so many doors in which you could have explored.
I think everyone should not only examine their own beliefs but others as well. It is not health to be stuck in just one mind set and be apposed to all others. Being open can help people relate to each other. That doesn't mean people should abandon their own set of beliefs, they should just be aware that other people may not think exactly how they think.
I think that we should always question what we know, because if we don't, we will never be able to know more. If everyone just accepted the world was flat, they never would have found out the truth. At the same time though, if you are happy with something or someone, maybe its okay once in a while to not question it and just be okay with that contentness.
I believe that certain things we are taught we should examine and test those beliefs. However, I do believe that once people test new theories and beliefs that they downplay some of the things that other human beings tend to value. We should not be so quick to strip away another person's values without first understanding them and respecting them. I don't think that we should question everyone of our beliefs though because eventually we are going to end up with nothing to live by...in some instances this causes people to lose their minds. Many people begin to feel like there is no point of life because we were just placed here on earth with nothing or no one to trust. This makes it hard to get into relationships and to move forward with our lives.
